Greedy Cat Play!

In week 6, the whole year 2s had a fun Greedy Cat day. In preparation for this day, we read different Greedy Cat books as part of our shared reading. We were allowed to dress up as a cat to celebrate our fun day and went to watch the Greedy Cat play at Vodafone Event Centre! We were very excited to see the play as it was some of our first time being at the theatre.

We learned about the difference between a movie and a play, and how they both can be originated from a book! Just like the Greedy Cat play.

Swimming fun

We are learning to float on our back and kick to swim forward using a pool noodle.

Room 10/11 has been going swimming in term 1, learning how to float using a pool noodle. Students in room 10/11 are also learning about water safety and building confidence in the water.

Screen-printing

Screen-printing:

The screen-printing process is a 3 step process. The 3 steps include different skills and challenges for the students.
Step 1: The student needs to draw a picture.
Step 2: The student needs to cut the picture out.
Step 3: The student needs to screen-print the picture that is cut out, and they do this by rolling paint over the screen with their picture under it.

We screen-printed Koru patterns that we have been practising (linked to our ‘Inquiry’ about Tāngata/People). We also went further, and did the two layer screen-print.

Bee Bots

Bee Bots

When working with the Bee Bots the children became excited, and without realising they were interacting, communicating, exploring, engaging and most importantly, they were learning together !

Not only did they benefit from all the above skills I mentioned, but they were also learning early skills of coding !  ‘Coding’ is the child learning about directional language, commands, sequencing and problem solving.  These are all very important skills to learn in this modern day and age.

Furthermore, they are using the Bee Bots on numeracy and literacy mats. Therefore, in addition to all the learning mentioned above, they are also learning about numbers, letters and sounds.

When I suggested that we should book them again, it was an absolute unanimous decision to do so !

Individual Input: "I like them.  They move fast !" said Sebastian
